Abstract
This paper analyzes the role of intellectual property in scientific research. The legal protection of software, and its impact on computer science, is used as a vivid example for assessing the economic foundation of intellectual property in the light of the most recent trends within the American legal scholarship connected with the Law and Economics movement.
