Abstract
An analysis of the poem by Goethe Wanderers Nachtlied and of the music written by Robert Schumann on this text has been made following some principles taken from the theories of structuralism. The analysis of the poetry and the music were first made separately in order to find out the salient features of both texts on their different levels. On the base of the results of each phases of the analysis some “semantic axes” were proposed for the poetry and the music, and then a comparison was made between them, in order to outline the structural similarity of the two languages of the Lied. The deep signification of the piece was illustrated giving sense to its measurable structures, in order to reduce the personal interpretation of the analyst.
